Modernising existing
machines and plants

Many machines remain mechanically serviceable long after their control system has been discontinued.

We coordinate the modernisation with production and maintenance. Hardware and programs are inspected. S7-300 and S7-400 control systems are migrated to S7-1500, with software and visualisation adapted accordingly. The conversion is completed during the agreed shutdown window. Following restart, we hand over the current software version and documentation. Further modifications are supported on site or by remote maintenance.

By remote access, we narrow down faults, adapt programs and assist during restart.

We check alarms, communication and the program sequence. Changes to programs, parameters and visualisation are implemented in a controlled manner.

Frequently asked questions about PLC programming

How long must the plant be shut down for a retrofit?

The required downtime depends on the hardware, I/O, interfaces and available documentation. Before conversion, we define the work, functional testing and restart.

The conversion is coordinated with production and can be carried out at weekends, during plant holidays or a planned production break.

Can existing PLC programs be retained?

Yes. This requires an up-to-date, accessible program version including the necessary passwords and libraries.

Before making changes, we check the structure, program blocks and interfaces. We retain everything that remains technically sound and traceable.

When does a migration from S7-300/400 to S7-1500 make sense?

A migration should be considered when spare-part availability, future expansion or reliable maintenance become difficult with the existing control system. The condition of the complete plant is more important than age alone.

If the mechanics, drives and peripherals remain serviceable, modernising the control system is often more economical than replacing the machine.

How is support handled when a fault occurs?

With prepared remote access, we first check the plant status, alarm history and program version. Changes are agreed, documented and then tested together.

If the fault cannot be resolved safely by remote access, we arrange an on-site visit. Binding response times are defined in a service agreement.

What is needed for an initial technical assessment?

The current PLC and HMI projects, circuit diagrams, hardware lists, control-cabinet photographs and a short description of the task are helpful.

If documents are missing, we begin with an inspection of the machine or plant.
